Ammobium alatum ‘Grandiflorum,’ commonly known as Winged Everlasting, is a unique and versatile flower grown for its beautiful, papery white blossoms and sturdy, winged stems. These silvery-white blooms open to reveal sunny yellow centers, adding a cheerful touch to any bouquet or floral arrangement. Perfect for both fresh and dried flower production, Winged Everlasting offers a wildflower-inspired charm that’s ideal for mixed bouquets, boutonnieres, and even floral crowns. Growing to approximately 60cm, this plant is an excellent addition to borders, beds, and floral arrangements.

Sowing Instructions:

  • Days to maturity: 70 to 80 days
  • Indoor Sowing: Start seeds indoors between February and April. Sow 2mm deep in moist, well-drained seed compost.
  • Germination: Typically occurs in 10–15 days at an ideal temperature of 15°C.
  • Transplanting: When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into 8cm pots and grow them on.
  • Planting Out: Once all danger of frost has passed, acclimatise the plants and transfer them to their final positions.

Growing Instructions:

  • Soil: Prefers sandy soil enriched with humus, but any deep, moist, and well-drained soil is suitable.
  • Light: Thrives in full sun.
  • Wildlife Attraction: Open blooms often attract beneficial pollinators such as hoverflies and wasps.

Cultivation Instructions:

  • Growth Habit: Stiff, upright stems covered in clusters of delicate, star-like blossoms.
  • Uses: Excellent for dried arrangements, fresh cuts, boutonnieres, and floral crowns.
  • Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to prolong the flowering season.
  • End of Season: Being an annual, pull up the plants at the end of the season and compost them.

Ammobium alatum ‘Grandiflorum’ is a delightful, low-maintenance addition to any garden, offering months of elegant, long-lasting blooms.
