Snapdragon Madame Butterfly Rose

Snapdragon Madame Butterfly Rose is a hybrid snapdragon variety that produces double petals for full, frilly blooms in a charming rose hue. Known for its Victorian appeal, it’s an excellent choice for both outdoor garden beds and greenhouse production.

Planting Tips:

  • Pinching for branching: For bushier plants, pinch young seedlings back by half when they are 8–10 cm tall. While this will delay flowering by a few weeks, it encourages more side branches for a fuller display.
  • Spacing: If pinching, space plants 15–30 cm apart. Direct seeding is not recommended.
  • Germination requirements: Snapdragon seeds need light for germination. Cover seeds with a fine layer of vermiculite to maintain moisture and prevent algae. Bottom water or mist lightly to avoid disturbing the seeds. Germination typically takes 7–14 days at 21–24°C.
  • Transplanting: When true leaves appear (about 3–4 weeks), transplant seedlings to larger containers. After seedlings develop 3–5 true leaves, maintain cooler temperatures of 10–14°C at night and around 16°C during the day for sturdy growth.

Growing Characteristics:

  • Height: Depending on how they’re grown, stems can range from 30 cm to 90 cm.
  • Light: Performs best in sunny locations or partial shade.
  • Season: Sow seeds in autumn, late winter, or spring for blooms approximately 115 days later.
  • Harvesting: Cut spikes when the florets on the lower third to half of the spike are open.
